The Best Weather of the Year

The end of summer always used to be a bit of a “downer” for me.  The end of warmer weather, the earlier sunsets, the closing of swimming pools, the start of school…OK, so it’s possible some of that is left over from a younger age.

Since I’ve been here, I’ve come to accept fall as my favorite time of year…weather-wise anyway.  Yes, it’s a time of year that gets drier, which makes our jobs in the weather office a lot easier.  But it’s more than that…combine the sunny skies and drier air with temperatures that are getting cooler as the days grow shorter…and we typically see a stretch of time where “perfect” weather is common.  For me, it’s always a stretch of a couple of weeks, usually in October, where it’s too cool for the A/C, too warm for the heater, and there’s no humidity to speak of.

We’re finishing September and starting October with such a stretch this year.  I just hope this means the “perfect” weather season will be lasting longer for me, rather than a sign that we’ll transition more quickly to winter.
