I watched 10 minutes of the Academy Awards, so I’m in no position to review the show. So here’s a cross-section of some reviews by major newspapers and trade papers that cover the industry.

The Hollywood Reporter “One can quibble the effectiveness of the production numbers but not the fact that this wasn’t the same old Oscar song and dance—and the franchise is undeniably the better for it.“

The Los Angeles Times “Whoever at ABC decided to cut to Angelina Jolie while Jennifer Aniston was helping to present the animated film award should look for a new line of work, because that was unforgivably cheesy.“

USA Today “Credit new producers Bill Condon and Laurence Mark, who made last night’s gorgeously designed ABC broadcast feel faster and more intimate without sacrificing Hollywood glamour.“

The Washington Post “The whole Oscarcast, live from Hollywood last night on ABC, really had more to do with television than movies, but maybe it always does, as producers of the show struggle against tradition to make it good TV. They failed again this year.“

Variety “For all the promise of a bold new approach that required shrouding the event in secrecy, the 81st Academy Awards mostly demonstrated the humongous difficulty—given the obligatory elements—to reinvent the wheel.“

And here’s the genere list from Box Office Mojo.com that was the source of Monday’s Question of the Day controversy.

Sorry, it wasn’t my best question.
