How Can You Talk Clemson Basketball With Football Starting In Two Weeks?

I agree with the basic premise of this article on summer basketball for high school stars by Gary Parrish of CBS Sports.com. I’ve heard a number of times that today’s top prep stars care more about their AAU team than what they accomplish on the floor with their high school.

Some coaches used to hire a player’s high school coach to attract a star player to come to their college (as in LSU hiring Jim Childers from Lower Richland High School south of Columbia to grab Stanley Roberts a couple of decades ago).

Now, schools are hiring AAU coaches after the summer evaluation period. These guys just happen to have some great connections with rising prep stars. And that’s where much of the stuff comes from that has seeped into college basketball. The kind of stuff that makes me want to take a shower after watching a game.

But enough of that.

Enjoy Parrish’s article about Clemson 2009 commitment Milton Jennings by clicking here.

I note this one nugget here:

“"I not only remember him, he impressed me as much as any kid I worked with all summer,“ (Jay) Bilas said. “He is smart, outgoing, energetic and really eager to learn and to be a really good player. Milton is willing to push his limits and step out of his comfort zone, and he will get better and better. ... Clemson got a great prospect and a great kid.“
