4 Day School Week - Pros and Cons….

» 2 Comments | Post a Comment

State Education Supeintendent of Education Dr. Jim Rex is asking the General Assembly to modify the current 180-day minimum requirement for school calendars so that local communities would have the option of going to a four-day school week if they choose.  That would mean lengthening four school days, to make up for the fifth.

Good idea?  Bad idea?

school over at 3:30 i have extra curriculum activities they are usally last until 6:30 so they want school to be over at either 5:30 are 6:30. what is up then they loose there respect for there town how do you expect ft-ball/band etc….. to practice i mean one day practices how they going to bee successful with that so i do think it is a bad idea students will be tired and so will teachers/administration. so yes i do think this is a horrible idea.

I do not think that the 4 day school week is a good idea.  The students’ classes at my school have already been lengthened from 90 minute blocks to 210 minute blocks.  I think that making them stay longer would only make students more resentful of school and have a reverse effect on teacher morale.  I think that attendance levels would plummet and as we all know, attendance is one of the main targets in reaching AYP on our annual report cards.  Plus there is also the upcoming daylight savings time issue.  That means that students would leave when it is dark in the morning and return home when i is dark in the evening.  Not a safe situation at the bus stops.  I don’t think my district will opt for the 4 day school week.
