Former Clemson Assistant Smart To Get VCU Job

Former Clemson assistant Shaka Smart will get his first head coaching job at Virginia Commwealth University in Richmond, according to a school official.

Smart has yet to sign a contract but an announcement is planned for Thursday.

Smart spent the past season on the staff at Florida.  In the two seasons prior to that he assisted Oliver Purnell at Clemson.

He takes over the defending Colonial Athletic Association champs from Anthony Grant, who was hired as the head coach at Alabama over the weekend.
