CCES Wins First 1-A Girls Basketball State Title

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -
Erin Carter scored 26 points to lead
Christ Church Episcopal School of Greenville to its first-ever
girls’ Class A state championship with a 48-39 victory over
Hardeeville on Saturday.

Hardeeville (23-4) trailed by as many as 11 in the first half,
but the Hurricanes tied the score at 27 late in the third quarter.

Christ Church (26-3) pushed the lead back out to six with two
lay-ups by Carter sandwiched around a basket by Katie Thomason.

And when Hardeville cut the lead to 39-36, the Cavaliers got
back-to-back buckets from Hayden Latham and Carter to seal the win.

Christ Church’s only other championship game appearance came in
2004.

Shantis Lee scored 16 to lead Hardeeville.
