Closed Mis-Captioning
Published: August 6, 2009
I appreciate efforts to provide closed captioning, but incorrect or missing text is often worse than no captioning at all. The news is the worst example. Ironically, it is the very words that I have difficulty hearing that often end up either omitted or typed incorrectly in the captioning. Why not provide the scripts being used by the newscasters to those providing the closed captioning? In the worst-case scenario, the captioning would show what the newscaster meant to say, even if they ad lib or make a mistake.
