SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Blythewood quarterback Richard Mounce
threw for 249 yards and a touchdown to lead South Carolina to a
31-24 victory over North Carolina in the Shrine Bowl.
Mounce and Summerville quarterback Reid McCollum each had
touchdown passes for the Sandlappers. Mounce was named the
offensive M-V-P for the South Carolina team. Last week, he was
named South Carolina's "Mr. Football" as the top player in the
state.
Both quarterbacks were helped by star receiver A.J. Green. The
Summerville senior had four catches for 108 yards. He also had 50
yards in returns.
North Carolina got the gap down to 24-17 on Casey Barth's field
goal with almost 13 minutes left. However, Blue Ridge tailback J.J.
Booker had a 31-yard touchdown run to give South Carolina a
cushion.
