CLEMSON (AP) - Students at Clemson University will not be burning the University of South Carolina's mascot in effigy before their game this year. That's because of last month's beach house fire that killed seven students from the schools.
South Carolina officials also say they're considering whether or not to hold the traditional "Tigerburn," which involves setting a massive paper-mache Clemson Tiger ablaze. A school spokesman says a decision is expected later in the week.
Six of the students killed in the fire in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, attended South Carolina. One attended Clemson.
Rather than holding a mock funeral and burning "Cocky," the University of South Carolina mascot, before the November 24th game, Clemson students instead plan to hold a pep rally Thursday that organizers are calling "Fowl Fest."
