Riverside High baseball coach Chris Bates stepped down Thursday afternoon, telling his team he wanted to seek a new challenge.
Bates guided the Warriors to three state titles and several national rankings in his seven seasons, in which he compiled 192 wins.
The Warriors were 27-3 this past season before being eliminated by Blythewood in the AAA upper state finals.
