New Postgame Field Policy At Clemson

Fans asked to wait three minutes after game before entering field.

Clemson, SC—Due to an incident that took place immediately after the conclusion of the Clemson vs. NC State game on September 13, there will be a tightening of fan access to the playing surface at Clemson Memorial Stadium at the conclusion of games.
Fan access to Frank Howard Field will be delayed (approximately three minutes) until the visiting team and coaching staff have departed.
“We had an unfortunate incident involving a Clemson fan and NC State Head Coach Tom O’ Brien immediately after the game last Saturday,” said Clemson Police Chief Johnson Link.
“After we saw the video tape, it was apparent that we needed to review our postgame field access. It was a situation that could have escalated into something larger. We appreciate the way NC State Coach Tom O’Brien has handled the matter.”
The policy will not detract from a proud Clemson tradition. Fans will still be allowed to gather at the Tiger Paw at midfield with Clemson players for the playing of the alma mater, and be allowed to interact with Clemson players for a short period of time after the game. Fans may remain on the field for 30 minutes, the same period of time as in the past.
“It is important that fans cooperate.” said Link. “While we appreciate the long standing tradition of Gathering at the Paw, it is important that people recognize that safety and security of all are paramount.”
