Trahan Makes Cut At The Masters

Trahan Makes Cut At The Masters

D.J. Trahan made his first Masters cut Friday

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Clemson, SC-Former Clemson All-American D.J. Trahan made the cut at the Masters on Friday with a second-round 73. Trahan shot an even par 72 in the first round to rank inside the cutline of +1. Chad Campbell and Kenny Perry are tied for the lead at nine under par 135.
It marks the first time Trahan has made the cut at the Masters in three tries, but it is the third straight Major championship appearance that he has made the cut. Last year he finished fourth in the United States Open at Torrey Pines, the highest finish ever by a former Clemson golfer at a major. He then finished 31st at the PGA at Bloomfield Hills. He did not appear in the British Open last year, but has qualified for that 2009 tournament for the first time. In fact, he has qualified for all four majors this year, the first former Tiger to qualify for all four majors before the beginning of the season.
Trahan is the sixth golfer with ties to Clemson to make the cut at the Masters. Chris Patton did it in 1990 as an amateur and finished 39th. Dillard Pruitt made the cut in 1992 and finished 13th with a 282 score. Clarence Rose finished 43rd in 1997, while Jonathan Byrd finished eighth with a 288 score in 2003. That is the best finish by a former Tiger at the Masters. Lucas Glover was the last Clemson golfer to make the cut at The Masters, as he finished 20th in 2007.
Trahan had a one over par 73 on Friday. He made the turn in one under par for the day after making birdies on the eighth and ninth holes. He made bogeys on the 11th and 15th holes to go to one over for the tournament and the round. That meant Trahan had to play the final three holes in even par, which he accomplished.
