South Carolina men's basketball and baseball play-by-play announcer Mike Morgan has abruptly left the program.
The school put out a release Tuesday saying Morgan has resigned his duties as the play-by-play
announcer for South Carolina men's basketball and baseball effective immediately in order to pursue
other professional opportunities, ISP Sports announced today.
Morgan has served as the voice of South Carolina basketball and baseball for nearly a decade. He also has
been the television play-by-play announcer for the Gamecocks' football replay telecasts.
"We thank Mike for his many years of service and wish him the best in his future endeavors," said Chris
Farris, Senior Vice President of Radio Productions at ISP, who was quoted in the release
A search for a replacement will begin immediately. During the remainder of the 2009 baseball season,
the play-by-play announcer role on the Gamecock Radio Network will be filled on an interim basis.
Morgan has not publicly commented but has reportedly also discontinued his work with a Columbia sports
radio station. He was a co-host on an afternoon talk show.
The Charleston Post&Courier published a story Monday night indicating that no single incident is said to
have led to the abrupt parting of ways.
On USC fan websites, Morgan was often mentioned with high regard. He told The State newspaper in
a recent article of his passion for his work.
He'd announced Gamecocks baseball games since 2000 and men's basketball since 2003.
