COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Ben Paulsen and Wilson Boyd had two RBIs
each and Kyle Parker added a three-run homer as Clemson gained a
split of the season series with an 12-2 victory over South
Carolina.
Clemson pitchers Scott Weismann and Matt Vaughn held the
Gamecocks (27-15) scoreless through seven innings Wednesday night
and the Tiger bats had their best showing in the state rivalry
since closing the 2007 series with a 14-5 victory.
The win didn't come easy, however.
Gamecock starter Adam Westmoreland retired the first 15 hitters
and carried a perfect game into the sixth.
That's when the Tigers found their offense with a five-run
inning, helped by a pair of misplays by centerfielder Whit
Merrifield.
South Carolina (27-15) had dominated the rivalry recently,
winning six in a row, including the first two this season.
Clemson broke the streak earlier this month.
