CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Andrew Goudelock scored 20 points to
lead College of Charleston to an 86-84 victory over Wofford on
Thursday night.
Jeremy Simmons contributed 16 points for the Cougars (22-7, 14-5
Southern Conference), while Marcus Hammond added 13. Charleston has
now won four straight, including six of its last seven.
After trailing 41-26 at halftime, Wofford opened the second half
with a 12-6 run to cut the lead to 47-38 with 14:44 remaining. The
Terriers (14-13, 10-8) continued to chip away to Charleston's lead,
and Junior Salters' jumper with 1:13 left made the score 77-72.
Wofford got within three points after Corey Godzinski made a
3-pointer with 19 seconds to cut the score to 82-79. But the
Cougars made their free throws down the stretch to put the game out
of reach.
Noah Dahlman paced Wofford with a career-high 36 points. Salters
chipped in with 16.
At The Citadel, Demetrius Nelson scored 28 points to
lead The Citadel in a 75-54 rout of Furman on Thursday night.
John Brown added 16 points and Zach Urbanus had 11 for the
Bulldogs (19-10, 14-4 Southern Conference), extending their winning
streak to 11 games. The Bulldogs remain in second place in the
SoCon, trailing conference-leading Davidson by two games with two
to go.
Nelson and Brown also grabbed eight rebounds apiece for The
Citadel.
Bryson Barnes paced the Paladins (6-21, 4-14), scoring 10 and
grabbing 12 rebounds.
The game was close throughout the first half, and the Bulldogs
managed a three-point lead at halftime. But the Bulldogs opened the
second on a 20-7 run, dominating the frame en route to victory.
It was the third straight loss for Furman, which dropped a 74-69
overtime game against The Citadel on Jan. 15.
In Spartanburg, Bobby Davis finished with 33 points and
11 rebounds to lead South Carolina-Upstate to a 93-90 win over
Mercer in double overtime on Thursday night.
Josh Chavis added 20 points for the Spartans (8-20, 7-12
Atlantic Sun Conference), while Nick Schneiders chipped in 10
points and seven blocks.
Davis made two free throws with 10 seconds remaining in
regulation to tie the game at 74 and force overtime. In the first
extra period, Daniel Emerson scored four straight points for the
Bears (17-13, 11-8) to give them an 85-82 advantage with 26 seconds
left. But Gabor Boros made a 3-pointer with 7 seconds remaining to
force a second overtime.
In the second OT, Mercer failed to score in the first three
minutes. Chavis' free throw with 11 seconds left gave the Spartans
a 93-87 lead to ensure the win.
James Florence scored 38 points to lead Mercer.
