Furman Welcomes Two Transfers From Higher Level

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman head football coach Bobby Lamb announced today the addition of quarterback Chris Forcier to the Paladin program.

Forcier, a 6-foot-3, 200-pounder, comes to Furman following two seasons at UCLA, where he saw limited action this past year in a backup role. He has three years of eligibility remaining and can play this fall due to NCAA rules.

“We’re delighted to have Chris Forcier join our program,” said Lamb in making the announcement Friday morning. “He is an outstanding athlete who has the ability to change the dynamic of an offense, and we look forward to seeing what he can do in August. We were impressed with Chris on his recruiting visit, and everyone we talked to at UCLA and from his high school spoke very highly of him. We’re glad he’s a Paladin.”
Forcier saw action off the bench in seven games last year, completing 3-of-11 passes for 22 yards and a touchdown (one interception). His scoring toss covered nine yards against California. He also rushed 12 times for 32 yards.

A native of San Diego, he passed for over 5,241 yards and 60 touchdowns and rushed for 1,154 yards and 18 touchdowns during his prep career, helping lead St. Augustine to a pair of CIF championships in 2005 and ‘06. As a senior he completed 158 of 291 passes for 2,347 yards and 23 touchdowns while also rushing for 631 yards and 10 scores. A 2006 first team all-state all-purpose selection (medium schools) by Cal-Hi Sports, the San Diego Eastern League Offensive Player of the Year was named to the San Diego Union-Tribune All-Star Team and to the Tacoma News Tribune Western 100.

A Prep Star and SuperPrep All-American, he was rated a four-star recruit by rivals.com and scout.com, and was ranked among the nation’s Top 20 quarterbacks by rivals.com, ESPN.com, scout.com, and SuperPrep.

Furman, which posted a 7-5 record in 2008, opens preseason practice August 8.
