FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) - They're done finishing a full day of
golf at the 109th U.S. Open at Bethpage Black, where rain allowed
less than 3 1-2 hours of play yesterday. Nobody completed their
second round and about half the field never even started their
second round.
Lucas Glover, who's never won a major, sits alone atop the
clubhouse leaderboard at 6-under par through 13 holes of his second
round. Ricky Barnes is one shot back at the halfway point of his
second round.
Former Masters champion Mike Weir is tied with Todd Hamilton and
Peter Hanson two shots back about halfway through their second
round.
Tiger Woods ended up signing for a 4-over 74 after completing
his rain-suspended first round. He never started his second round.
Woods, the defending Open champion, is tied for 65th at this point,
10 shots back of overnight clubhouse leader Glover.
Phil Mickelson shot a first-round 69 and was 1 under for the
tournament through 11 holes of his second round when play was
suspended due to darkness.
The field will try to get an early start Saturday but it's
beginning to look like the tournament will have to run until at
least Monday to decide the national champion. More rain is in the
forecast for Saturday on Long Island.
