GREENWOOD – Lander University head men’s basketball coach Bruce Evans announced his resignation today after the Bearcats were eliminated from the Peach Belt Conference tournament in Aiken.

In five years as Lander’s head coach, Evans amassed a 68-78 overall record for a .465 winning percentage. He had an overall 38-54 record in the Peach Belt Conference for a .413 winning percentage.

The Bearcats finished this season with a 12-16 record and they were 10-19 last year.

“I’d like to thank Coach Evans for his five years as our head coach,” said Lander athletics director Jeff May. “Coach Evans is a quality individual and we wish him much success as he moves forward.

“We now turn our attention to hiring a coach who will lead the Bearcats in the coming years.”

According to May, the search for a new coach will begin immediately.
