COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -
Candance Wright scored 18 points to lead
Marion to a 58-54 win Saturday in the Class 2A girls championship.
Marion (24-2) led by 11 to start the fourth quarter, but
Pendleton (22-6) rallied to take its first lead of the game at
54-52 with 1:17 to go.
Marion's Amber Timmons tied the game with a pair of free throws
with 1:09 left. The Swamp Foxes' final 11 points would all come
from the foul line, including going 4-of-6 in the final minute.
Pendleton ended the game with three missed shots and a turnover.
It was Marion's first state title since 1954 and its eighth
overall, tying the Swamp Foxes with Bowman and Monetta.
Charlee Earle scored 15 points to lead Pendleton in only its
second-ever state title game.
