Greenville, SC – The Greenville Drive and Wofford College announced today that the Drive and the Terriers will play an exhibition baseball game prior to the start of the Drive’s 2009 regular season. The game will be played at Fluor Field on Tuesday, April 7th with first pitch scheduled for 7 PM.
This game will mark the first time in the Drive’s four-year history that they will take part in an exhibition game before kicking off the start of their regular season. The Drive and Terriers will play a seven-inning game, in which both teams will use wood bats.
“Despite the Drive beginning the 2009 regular season on the road, baseball fans across the Upstate will not have to wait until April 13th for their first glimpse of their Drive team at Fluor Field,” said Mike deMaine, General Manager of the Drive. “This game is a great example of the relationship that the Drive and Wofford have been able to develop over the past few years and it is a relationship that we hope to build on in years to come.”
Terriers head coach Todd Interdonato added, “Our players are very excited about the opportunity to play at Fluor Field and to be able to play a game against the Drive. This will be an exciting moment for these young men, as well as our entire student body, staff, and alumni.”
Tickets for this exhibition game can be purchased by calling the Fluor Field Box Office at (864) 240-4528, or by logging onto the Drive’s website – www.GreenvilleDrive.com – or Wofford’s athletic website – athletics.wofford.edu.
Ticket prices will be the same for this game as they are for Drive regular season games. In addition, Drive Ticket Plan Holders that purchase tickets to this special exhibition game will be able to take part in a complimentary Drive “thank you for your loyalty” buffet dinner in the 300 Picnic Plateau from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM.
Drive Co-Owner and President, Craig Brown, commented on the exhibition game, saying, “The Drive has been able to forge strong partnerships with Upstate colleges and universities, including Wofford, Furman, Clemson, and South Carolina, and we are pleased to be able to expand these relationships with this exhibition game between the Drive and Wofford.”
Brown also added, “In addition to hosting the Terriers on April 7th, we are looking forward to welcoming them back to Fluor Field in late May for the Southern Conference Baseball Tournament.”
