Clemson's Humphries Suspended Two Games

Reserve lineman to miss first two games

Clemson, SC—Clemson reserve offensive lineman Barry Humphries will be suspended for the first two games of the 2009 season. Humphries was arrested on a DUI charge in early May while driving his motor scooter in Clemson.
Humphries suffered a torn ACL during the 2008 season and played in just two games. He had served as a starter during the 2007 season as a center and guard. The native of Anderson, SC earned his undergraduate degree from Clemson earlier this month, but has one season of eligibility remaining. He missed spring practice while recovering from the injury and is listed as the fourth team center on the post spring practice depth chart.
“I was proud of Barry when he graduated from Clemson earlier this month, but I was disappointed in his decision in this situation,” said Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney. “Even though he was on a motor scooter, we take this charge seriously. He came to us the next day and told us what had happened. Barry will be suspended for the first two games this year (Middle Tennessee and Georgia Tech) and we will continue to monitor the legal process in this situation throughout the summer.”
