Benton To Start At Placekicker Saturday

Academic matter keeps Jackson on sidelines but he could still play

Clemson will use freshman Spencer Benton as its starting placekicker Saturday at N.C. State in place of Richard Jackson.

The move has nothing to do with Jackson's performance last week against Florida State, which he missed two extra point tries and was 0-2 on field goal attempts but instead is related to an academic matter, according to Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney.

Jackson could still play in Saturday's game at some point.

Benton has handled kick-offs this season. He also missed an extra point last Saturday in his only attempt of the season.
