COLUMBIA, S.C. (October 22, 2009) - The 23rd-ranked University of South Carolina football team
(5-2, 2-2 SEC) continued its preparations for Saturday's SEC showdown with the Vanderbilt
Commodores (2-5, 0-4 SEC) by working out at the Bluff Road practice fields on Thursday afternoon.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Tickets remain for the game, which
will be televised nationally on ESPNU with Eric Collins and Brock Huard describing the action.
"We're looking forward to a big crowd, big ballgame Saturday night at 7 o'clock," said Head Coach
Steve Spurrier following the practice session. "We need our fans roaring and yelling at Vandy. We need
to go beat these guys if we can Saturday night."
The Gamecocks got a bit of good news, as tight end Weslye Saunders seems to be recovering from an
ankle injury that has sidelined him some this week. "Weslye is somewhat healthy," noted Coach
Spurrier. "He'll suit up. He's not starting, but he should be a lot better by Saturday night. He'll probably
play some. I don't think he can go the distance, but he's expected to play."
Deep snapper C.D. Turner has been wearing a yellow jersey this week in practice. "Turner got bonked
on the head last week in practice. He had a slight concussion I think, so they're checking him out. But he
should be fine. If he can't go, Matt Grooms will probably be the snapper. He's done a good job."
