The South Carolina High School League delayed its realignment appeals hearings for Spartanburg, Chesnee, and several other schools Tuesday after Chapin High School, which among those appealing, challenged the League's realignment process.
SCHSL Executive Director Jerome Singleton told News Channel 7 Tuesday afternoon that the inquiry came from legal cousel hired by the school.
Singleton says that SCHSL attorneys will now review the process to determine if any irregularities took place.
He hopes to have an answer on how to proceed within a couple of weeks.
The SCHSL realigns its schools every two years due to changing population dynamics in South Carolina. The new plan, which would go into effect next August, would move Spartanburg out of region 2-4A and into Region Three, which includes schools primarily from the Rock Hill area.
Chesnee, a longtime participant in Appalachian 2A (Region Two), would be switched to Skyline 2A (Region One) with schools located primarily in Anderson and Pickens counties.
Among other schools that would be significantly affected by the new realignment plan are Mann, Riverside, and Woodmont, which are scheduled to move up to 4A as well as Walhalla (moving from 2A up to 3A) and Abbeville (moving from 2A down to 1A).
Chapin, located in Lexington County, just northwest of Columbia, is realigned into Region 3-3A under the new plan. It's a league in which its five other members are upstate schools.
