Spartanburg High School is pleased to announce Hal McManus as the new Head Basketball Coach. Coach McManus is native of Spartanburg and a 1994 graduate of Lander University, where he played basketball and led the nation in free-throw shooting. McManus has served as head basketball coach and athletic director at Broome High School, where he coached three region titles, two upper state championships, and one state championship (2005). Additionally, during his tenure at Broome, Coach McManus earned the Region II-AA Sportsmanship Award and was named the Region II-AA Athletic Director of the Year.

Upon being notified, Coach McManus commented, “I am truly honored to be chosen as the next basketball coach at Spartanburg High School.  Spartanburg School District Seven has a storied tradition of excellence in academics and athletics.  My family and I look forward to serving this community and being a vital part of its traditionally high standards.”

Spartanburg High School Principal, Jeff Stevens, is enthusiastic about Coach McManus’ appointment. “We are excited to have Hal McManus on our team.  He brings integrity, enthusiasm, a passion for children, and a wealth of basketball knowledge that will all be an asset to our basketball program, school, and community.  We are happy to welcome him and his family to Spartanburg High School.”

Athletic Director Myles Wilson looks forward to Coach McManus joining the Spartanburg High school family. “SHS is fortunate to have Coach McManus’ leadership, vision, and his basketball experience at the 4A, 3A, and 2A level.  I am confident that our program will continue to be successful and that our players will continue to make us all proud on the court and in the classroom.”

Dr. Thomas White, Superintendent, commented, "First, I extend my warmest welcome to Coach Hal McManus and his family.  I have every confidence that through Coach McManus' leadership Spartanburg High will continue to meet the high standards of excellence set by citizens and parents in Spartanburg District Seven.”
