Clemson quarterback Kyle Parker signed with the Rockies Monday night just before the deadline for draftees to work out contacts with teams.
Baseball America reports that the 26th pick of the first round received a signing bonus worth $1.4 million. Parker initially turned down a $2.2 million offer on July 20th after asking for significantly more from the team to give up football.
He'll play quarterback for Clemson this fall and then begin his work with the Rockies. He threw for 2,526 yards and 20 touchdowns for the Tigers last season and hit .358 with 20 homers this past spring to help lead Clemson's baseball team to the College World Series.
hhe's the first Division I athlete to throw 20 touchdowns and hit 20 homers in the same academic year.
USC RHP Sam Dyson, a fourth round pick of the Blue Jays, signed with Toronto for $400,000.
Clemson LHP Casey Harman, the Cubs' 29th round pick, also signed thus bypassing his senior season.
