COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - DeAndre Hopkins led a 13-2 run in the
fourth quarter as Daniel defeated Lake City 59-42 to win the South
Carolina state Class AAA boys basketball championship on Saturday
night.
The Lions, who held Lake City to three points in the fourth
quarter, earned their first state title since 1967.
Hopkins, who will play football at Clemson, sparked the Lions
with five points and showed brilliant passing to set up his
teammates' baskets during the fourth-quarter rally. Justin Dotson,
Jemiah Wimphrie, Antonio Cannon and Shaq Lawson all scored for
Daniel during the run.
Lake City was making its first state finals appearance and never
led in the game. The Panthers stayed close until the final period,
trailing 46-40 when Daniel began to pull away.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Khadijah Sessions scored 24 points and hit
three straight free throws in overtime to give Myrtle Beach a 64-59
win over Daniel of Central for the South Carolina Class 3A girls
state basketball championship Saturday.
Tanisha Brown added 12 points for the Lady Seahawks (29-1) and
Danielle Cooper had 11.
The Lady Seahawks maintained the upper hand most of the game,
but Daniel kept fighting back. Anicia Dotson made two free throws
with 10 seconds to play in the fourth quarter to force a 55-55 tie.
Myrtle Beach missed two shots at the end of regulation.
The teams traded baskets in overtime before Brown's bucket put
Myrtle Beach ahead for good.
Daniel, making its first appearance in a girls final, was led by
Dotson's 19 points. Carly Hoover added 17 and Sherece Smith 11.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Southside's Nikki Young drove the length
of the court for a layup with 13 seconds left to give the Lady
Tigers a 66-64 victory over Marion for the state Class AA girls
basketball championship at the Colonial Life Arena on Saturday.
Southside (25-4) led virtually the whole game and once by as
many as 13 points.
Marion (25-2) made three runs at the Lady Tigers and managed
back-to-back baskets by Tyshanna Lester and Geneika Brantley to tie
the game at 64 with 25 seconds to go.
Young finished with 24 points to lead Southside. Yoko Mosley
added 16 and Chelsea Walker had 10.
Brantley sparked the Lady Auctioneers with 24 points, 12 in the
last period. Amira Timmons scored 16 and Amber Timmons scored nine.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Erin Carter and Katie Thomason scored 16
points each to lead Christ Church to the 1-A
state championship with a 47-38 win against Hardeeville at the
Colonial Life Arena on Saturday.
The Cavaliers (26-2) lost their best player, Hayden Lathem, to
fouls with 3:28 left in the third quarter. Lathem finished with 11
points.
went 12-for-17 from the free-throw line to hold off the Hurricanes.
Jomanda Smalls led Hardeeville (23-3) with a game-high 19
points. The Hurricanes shot poorly from the field and made just 10
of 25 free throws.
