Former USC and current Oakland catcher Landon Powell, who lives in the upstate during the off-season, was part of baseball infamy this past season when he caught Dallas Braden's perfect game with the Athletics.
His alma mater also made him proud when they won the College World Series title.
As Powell's career progresses, he's also in a personal battle as he learned about a year-and-a-half ago that he needs a new liver.
In addition to his own struggle, Powell will help those experiencing similar circumstances when he and his wife Allyson take part in the Sunday November 7th Donors On The Diamond - A Family Evening at The Ballpark to benefit Donate Life South Carolina and help raise awareness of the need for South Carolina residents to register as organ donors. It takes place from 5-8pm at Greenville's Fluor Field.
The event is designed to raise support and awareness of the need for organ and tissue donor registration.
Many national and local MLB stars and other professional sport celebrity athletes from the pro-golf. pro-cycling and pro-soccer world are scheduled to attend and will be filled with activities for all ages, and will include a silent auction featuring signed sports memorabilia from MLB stars including Josh Hamilton, Joe Mauer, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and many others. There will also be traditional Southern Barbecue, live music, a kids Wiffle® Ball game among the activities.
