SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford senior Kevin Giltner has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played February 14-20 the league office announced Tuesday (Feb. 21). Giltner averaged 23.5 points and six rebounds last week as Wofford topped Elon (72-59), before falling to Charleston Southern (77-59) in a BracketBuster matchup.
Giltner opened the week with a game-high 26 points against the Phoenix. The Kingston Springs, Tenn., native shot 10-of-19 from the field and made six three-pointers. He followed that up with 21 points and a team-high eight rebounds in 37 minutes at Charleston Southern. Giltner shot 51 percent from the field for the week (16-of-31) and knocked down 11-of-22 from three-point range.
Giltner has now scored at least 20 points in seven games this season and ranks fifth in the SoCon in scoring with 15.4 points per game. He is third in the league with 2.6 made three-pointers per game and ranks second in the SoCon in minutes played (37.9 mpg).
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State’s Mike Neal, College of Charleston’s Nori Johnson, The Citadel’s Lawrence Miller, Davidson’s Jake Cohen, Chattanooga’s Dontay Hampton, and Western Carolina’s Keaton Cole.
The Terriers play at UNCG on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. and will conclude the regular season on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against Furman at Benjamin Johnson Arena.
Meanwhile, USC Upstate guard Ty Greene is the Atlantic Sun Conference's Newcomer of the Week after hitting a buzzer-beater for a road win at Lipscomb Saturday.
